Abstract
Coasts and maritime transport routes in general play a very important role in strengthening the economic-defense security of coastal countries. In the case of Iran, given the country's specific geographical location and its emphasis on the sea-centered development document, the importance of coasts and maritime routes for strengthening economic security is more apparent than ever. This research aims to explain appropriate and strategic strategies for strengthening the economic-defense security of Iran's coasts and maritime transport routes. This study is applied in terms of its objective and descriptive-analytical in terms of its nature and method. The primary data collection tools included library research and the review of credible domestic and international documents and sources. Additionally, to conduct the final data analysis and extract the four dimensions of the SWOT framework, semi-structured interviews were carried out with university professors and experts in the field of maritime transport. Data analysis was performed by integrating theoretical findings with the results obtained from the expert panel.
If the Islamic Republic of Iran can, through a comprehensive and strategic planning, transform the general policies announced related to sea-based development into specific and implementable operational measures and strategies, which include improving port infrastructure, strengthening the naval fleet, and developing commercial activities and maritime transportation, these measures can lead to strengthening the country's economic security and make the Iranian economy more resilient to economic turbulence by increasing its competitiveness in international markets, creating new job opportunities, and diversifying income sources.
